$300 Million Building Permit To Start Vertical Construction

Clark Construction is starting vertical construction on a $300 million tower at 110 N. Wacker Drive per Chicago Construction News. This waterfront building is expected to be completed in 2020 and will be anchored by Bank of America who will be leasing 500,000 square feet of this building. This skyscraper will alter the Chicago skyline.

The owner is listed on the permit as HH Wacker Management Development Company in Dallas. TMPC Realty Corp. is also associated with the owner's listed address. Curbed Chicago stated that the building is being co-developed by the Howard Hughes Corp. and Riverside Investment and Development.

According to Curbed Chicago, the 54 story office tower is beginning it's upward climb right after the concrete foundation pour that occured early Saturday morning when more than 300 truckloads of concrete was poured to form the reinforced foundation in eight hours.

This building will replace the 1950's former General Growth Building and will eventually reach a height of 800 feet. Pieces of the demolished midcentury steel facade will be used in the base of the new tower according to an agreement reached following federal historic review. The former tenant, GGP, has moved across the river to River North Point, a building that was formerly known as the Apparel Mart. 

This structure will be Chicago's tallest fully commercial building since Two Prudential Plaza was built in 1990. The tower will be designed by Goettsch Partners and will feature a glassy facade and a publicly accessible riverwalk along the building's western side. There will also be a small pocket park along Randolph, retail space on the ground floor, a huge, soaring 45 foot lobby and 110 parking spaces underground.
