The White Oaks Mall is getting a major makeover to match nearby new developments and the future construction of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT). The mall, built in stages over several decades, is being partially demolished.
Once new construction is complete, the new section will feature two new restaurants with front-facing patios and will also include a Beertown. According to construction supervisor, Nathan Schreuders - "This will be a big undertaking."
Finax News states that the area to be redeveloped is across Wellington Road between The Bay and Walmart.
The section has long featured sloping concrete walls in the Brutalist style typical of construction in the early 1970's.
CTV News reports that construction will be completed over two years. Phase one will be finished by next spring according to mall officials. The second phase, where RBC is currently located, will be completed the following year.
"Obviously, it looks like a lot is going on as we take off the front face of the mall. So, we are getting a lot of people taking a look and stopping by, especially with the mall heritage."

A lot of people of really looking forward to having the new restaurants and front facing patios so that they can sit, have a drink and relax while shopping or just out socializing.
Some bus routes arriving at White Oaks have been impacted by the construction. Most have been moved to a temporary location near Mark's Work Warehouse.
