The Government of Canada is investing more than $190.2 million in 144 projects across Ontario through the Green Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program. The government is providing over $140.5 million, while the local communities are contributing more than $108.5 million.
News Ontario states that this investment will improve water infrastructure and ensure Canadians have better access to reliable and clean drinking water.
In Welland, plans call for the installation of 1,500 metres of watermain, along with seven new hydrants on Canal Bank Road. Roads and sidewalks impacted by work on this project will also be restored through this investment.
Havelock-Belmont-Methuen is another community receiving funding to support the replacement of over 500 metres of watermain along George Street and the installation of four new fire hydrants. Work will also include the reconstruction of affected roadways, sidewalks, and driveways.
In Kingsville, over 3,200 metres of watermains will be replaced on several streets like James Avenue and Stonehedge Drive. The project will also include the installation of 234 water service lines and 24 new fire hydrants.
According to the Government of Canada, the following are just some of the projects that will also be included:
Town of Petrolia
- Bright's Grove Water Treatment Plant Intake Replacement - Includes construction of a new water intake pipeline, intake well, and low lift pumping station. Also includes the installation of a passive intake screen, protective crib, a frazil ice and zebra mussel control system, and re-purposing the existing plant for construction of a pre-filtration system.
City of Sarnia
- Vidal Street South Area Watermain Replacement - Includes the replacement of five kilometres of watermains along eight streets, equipment upgrades, and restoration of disturbed sites to help improve reliability and capacity of the transmission infrastructure and increase access to potable water.
Municipality of North Middlesex
- Rehabilitation of Parkhill Main Street Watermain and North Middlesex Water Systems - Rehabilitation of the water distribution system on Parkhill Main Street and upgrades to the water treatment plant in the Municipality of North Middlesex including improvements to local water pipes to improve access to potable water and increase the reliability and capacity of the transmission infrastructure.
Town of Prescott
- Prescott Water Tower Replacement - Includes the construction of an elevated water tower and a new foundation, elevated tank, building support and all appurtenances, as well as the demolition of the existing Prescott elevated water tower.
City of Kawartha Lakes
- Rehabilitation of Lindsay Water Treatment Plant and Watermains on Lindsay Street and King Street
Town of East Gwillimbury
- East Gwillimbury Watermain Upgrades - Includes the replacement of 40 valves, 20 hydrants, two kilometres of watermain and service connections.
Town of Hanover
- Includes the replacement of the 7th Avenue water tower including the demolition of the existing water tower, excavation of the site and construction of the new water tower.
Town of Smiths Falls
- Includes the decommissioning of the existing 96-year-old water tower and the relocation and construction of a new elevated water storage tower.
Town of Mono
- Improvements to the Island Lake Drinking Water System and includes the construction of building additions, the installation of additional ground level storage tanks and maintenance of Source Coles Well 1.
Town of Rainy River
- Third Street Water Distribution Upgrades - Replacement of 530 metres of transmission pipes along Third Street and includes the distribution and wastewater collection pipes along Mill and Broadway Avenue. Also 60 metres of distribution pipe connected to the water treatment plant.
County of Norfolk
- Port Rowan Water Treatment Plant Improvements - Includes the installation of two pipe filters and construction of an addition top the plant building which will house a new larger clear well and work in conjunction with the pipe filters.
Town of Erin
- Watermain Replacement and Water System Upgrades - Includes 5,000 metres of watermains on 21 streets in the Town of Erin. Also includes pre-laying sanitary sewer collection pipes, hydrants and the reconstruction of affected roads.
County of Renfrew
- Rehabilitation of Watermains - Replacement of 2.8 kilometres of watermains on six streets and the installation of new fire hydrants, valves and service connections. Affected pavement will also be restored to pre-construction condition.
Township of North Dundas
- Improvements to the Township of North Dundas Drinking Water System - Upgrade 416 metres of watermain along Highway 7 in Marmora and Lake. Also includes the replacement of piping and the installation of 11 new water service lines and five hydrants, and reinstatement of areas affected by road.
Township of Hornepayne
- Replacement of water distribution linear infrastructure including watermain, fire hydrants with service lines, curb stops with service lines, and valves on Third Avenue. Also includes the restoration of affected pavement, culverts and sod.
Town of Aylmer
- Replacement of the existing water tower with a new, high capacity water tower in an elevated location.
Town of Blind River
- Construction of a Blind River Drinking Water Supply Source - Replacement of the Groundwater Under the Direct Influence of surface water (GUDI) well field of five wells with new lake intake source.
District Municipality of Muskoka
- Bracebridge Water Distribution System Rehabilitation - Rehabilitation of two water crossings on Wellington Street and Taylor Road over the Muskoka River and upgrading one water storage standpipe at Hamblin Reservoir in Bracebridge.
City of Port Colborne
- Includes the replacement of 2,035 metres of cast iron watermain with PVC, side street interconnections, and installation of fire hydrants and main line water valves. Affected roadway, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways will also be reinstated.
Town of Amherstburg
- Water Treatment Plant Reservoir Rehabilitation - Includes the excavation and installation of a new reservoir at the Amherstburg Water Treatment Plant and the refurbishment of the interior of the existing reservoir.
Town of Orangeville
- Replacement of the interior lining of the reservoir, the addition of a mixing system, safety upgrades and exterior work. Also involves the installation of a new temporary water storage facility including a pumping system to provide the required pressure, flow demands and fire flow capacity while the repairs on an existing asset are being completed.
Town of Espanola
- Replacement of 850 metres of watermain from Queensway Avenue, north along Mead Boulevard and Second Avenue. Also includes the restoration of impacted sidewalks and roads.
Township of Mapleton
- Moorefield Water System Renewal - Rehabilitation of the drinking water system at the water treatment plant including various upgrades, replacements and installations, to improve water treatment facilities.
Township of Southgate
- Replacement and installation of 2,040 metres of watermain, fire hydrants, watermain valves, and the rehabilitation of the Dundalk D3 well and reservoir to manage discharge into the distribution system.
Town of Cobourg
- Cobourg Zone 1 Elevated Tank Replacement - Includes the replacement of the existing Victoria Street Elevated Tank with a new ET located further east. Also involves excavating the existing site, installation of associated piping, and construction of foundations and access roads as well as the construction of the new ET.
Municipality of West Nipissing
- Installation of Sturgeon Falls Water Main Trunk Loop - Involves the installation of 2,100 metres of transmission pipes in West Nipissing, to extend a second watermain trunk from the Sturgeon Falls water plant which will complete a watermain trunk loop and increase capacity of the transmission infrastructure.
Township of Manitouwadge
- Manitou Road Water Infrastructure Rehabilitation - Replacement of the watermain, valves, service lines and fire hydrants, as well as the reinstatement of road, sewer lines, catch basins, sewer manholes, sidewalk, traffic circle, curb, ditches, grass and gravel disrupted during construction.
Town of Lincoln
- Includes the rehabilitation and replacement of 6,540 metres of watermain and the installation of eight new SMART hydrants in the Town of Lincoln.
Township of South Glengarry
- Rehabilitation of Glen Walter's Water Treatment Plant and Watermain Replacement - Includes upgrades to water assets at the Glen Walter Water Treatment Plant including a new and elevated water storage tank with new pumps. Also includes the replacement of 4,000 metres of existing watermains along Montreal Road (Highway 2).
Township of Val Rita-Harty
- Renovation and refurbishment of the drinking water treatment facility including upgrading equipment and modernizing the building.
Town of Kapuskasing
- Brunelle Road North Watermain Reconstruction - Replacement of six gate valves, four hydrants, and 31 water service connections and the reinstatement of affected concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters, and roadway in the Town of Kapuskasing.
Municipality of South Bruce
- Construction of a new potable water storage facility and installation of a new groundwater well and treatment equipment to improve water assets.
