The vision for the new Grandview Kids is to support the seamless and coordinated provision of family-centred care for children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs and their families in the Durham Region.
Infrastructure Ontario states that it will be an open, welcoming and inclusive community-based pediatric facility supporting an integrated mix of rehabilitation, medical and clinical services, as well as education and research activities.
When the project is complete, Grandview Kids will consolidate its existing main site in Oshawa and multiple satellite locations into a new purpose-built facility located on 5.06 acres of land, donated by the Town of Ajax. Grandview Kids will maintain three satellite locations in Clarington, Port Perry and Oshawa and its partnership with the Whitby Abilities Centre to reduce extensive travel times for some clients and caregivers.
Infrastructure Ontario and Grandview Kids have invited three teams to respond to a request for proposals to design, build and finance the Grandview Children's Treatment Centre Redevelopment project.
Ontario Construction News reports that the three teams were shortlisted based on criteria identified in a request for qualifications process that began on September 2020. Selection criteria included the following:
- Design and construction capability
- Experience
- Qualified personnel
- Financial capacity to undertake a project of this size and scope

Teams will now begin preparing proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. As soon as submissions are received, Infrastructure Ontario and Grandview Kids will evaluate the proposals, select a preferred team and then negotiate a final contract.
A fairness monitor will oversee the entire procurement process and a successful bidder will be announced in the spring of 2022.
B+H Architects has been selected as the planning, design and conformance team, and the project manager is Colliers Project leaders. Infrastructure Ontario and Grandview will name the successful construction team next spring.
The construction project will join the main Grandview site in Oshawa in a single, purpose-built facility located in Ajax.
The new Grandview Kids headquarters will be a centre of excellence in Pediatric care and will include the following:
- Centre-Wide Therapy Services: occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech-language pathology, recreation therapy, audiology, infant hearing, blind low vision, social work
- Ontario Autism Program
- Preschool Outreach Program
- School-based rehabilitation
- Developmental pediatric medical services including specialized medical clinics
- Family/caregiver resources and support
- Campbell Children's School
This larger, fully accessible facility will allow Grandview Kids to expand or enhance existing services and introduce new ones.
