Queen Elizabeth Way/Dixie Road Interchange to Receive Multi-Million Dollar Rehabilitation

Mississauga - Provincial and Federal politicians have announced the new Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) Dixie Road Interchange Project in Mississauga. The proposed plan includes the replacement of the Dixie Road Bridge, Etobicoke Creek Bridge and the Ogden Road Pedestrian Bridge over the QEW as well as ramp and pavement rehabilitation from east of Cawthra Road to the QEW/Gardiner Expressway boundary. In addition, plans also include a new multi-use trail that will be constructed along Dixie Road. Construction will take place between Evans Road and Cawthra Road.

Property acquisition has been ongoing with homeowners in the area, ranging from small portions of property to full buyouts, depending on the impact of the properties. The total number of properties to be expropriated has yet to be determined.

The multi-million dollar project will address what has been called one of the busiest and most dangerous highway interchanges in Ontario. The rehabilitation of the QEW-Dixie Road interchange will ease the bottleneck on a highway that serves over 200,000 vehicles per day, as well as support the community's transportation needs and reduce travel times.

The Governments of Canada and Ontario are each expected to contribute $32.5 million for the project. The total cost has not yet been reported, but it could impact the competitive bidding process. The final cost will be available once the construction contract is awarded. The Ministry of Transportation (MTO) plans to start the first phase of construction in late 2018, and expect construction to take four years to complete.
