PEMA Facility Breaks Ground in Plainfield

PEMA Facility breaks ground in Plainfield

The Village of Plainfield and Northern Builders, Inc. celebrated the start of construction on the new Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) facility at 14805 S. Wood Farm Road. The 15,000 square foot facility will be home to Plainfield's emergency operations network.

Patch News reported that construction of the building was made possible through the village's private-public partnership with Northern Builders, Inc. More information on the construction of this project will be forthcoming.

"We are absolutely thrilled to finally start construction of this building and we look forward to its completion. PEMA is an important part of the Village's emergency response during any disaster and they have operated out of an antiquated building for far too long. Many thanks to our partners at Northern Builders for bringing these plans to life."

Mayor of Plainfield | Mike Collins

The village entered into a development agreement with Northern Builders, Inc. in 2017 to develop village-owned property along Wood Farm and Van Dyke Road.

"Northern Builders, Inc. is honored to be the general contractor for the new home of the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency (PEMA). This facility for PEMA will be the strategic hub for Plainfield's emergency efforts. All of us at Northern are proud to partner with the Village of Plainfield and be a part of this very important project. Northern values our relationship with the Village of Plainfield and looks forward to working on many future projects together."

President & CEO of Northern Builders Inc. | Thomas D. Grusecki

Besides the PEMA facility, the Pace Bus maintenance garage and Perlow Steel are also under construction on the property.

According to the Village of Plainfield website, PEMA serves as the main coordination point between all emergency services within the Village of Plainfield. The primary mission of PEMA is to plan for, respond to, and assist in the recovery from any major emergency or disaster that may impact the citizens and services within the Village.

The members of PEMA engage in many activities related to Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness including severe weather spotting, hazard mitigation, hazardous materials awareness, Ground Search and Rescue, and compliance with the National Incident Management System (NIMS).

PEMA also responds to emergency callouts for traffic control, scene lighting, or rehab for major police or fire incidents.
