NorthPoint Development just had a groundbreaking ceremony on a new $164 million industrial complex that will encompass 196 acres. This will generate more than 1,300 jobs on the Southeast Side per Chicago Construction News.

"Today marks the latest investment in the Southeast Side that will leverage its skilled labor force and create more jobs and more opportunities for this community while keeping us on the cutting edge of a dynamic industry."

Chicago Mayor | Rahm Emanuel

The project will have six structures and will start with a 360,000 square foot industrial building on the 12200 block of South Burley Avenue. The six structures will range from 215,000 to 600,000 square feet. All together, they will total 2.3 million square feet of space that will hold up to 10 manufacturing, assembly and distribution oriented tenants.

The complex will be located next to NorthPoint's 2.8 million square foot supplier park that Ford uses at it's assembly plant on Torrence Avenue.

TIF will assist with up to $52 million to help pay for environmental remediation, roadway improvements, infrastructure upgrades and other project costs. This assistance will be provided after the project is complete and subject to ongoing occupancy and employment.

When the complex becomes fully occupied, it is expected to create 650 temporary construction and 660 permanent jobs.

The site is within South Deering's Calumet Industrial Corridor and was used in 1901 for steel production by Republic Steel which had merged with LTV Steel in 1984. It was open until 2001.

Per NorthPoint Development, the developer has become one of the most active and fastest growing industrial development firms in the country with a portfolio of over 21,000,000 square feet since it started in 2012. They have now developed some of the largest and most technically driven warehouses and manufacturing facilities throughout the Midwest.
