New Technology Lab Coming to Illinois Institute of Technology

Written by Judy Lamelza | Nov 14, 2020 5:53:01 PM

The Illinois Institute of Technology is proposing a new technology lab for one of its engineering programs. This will be accomplished by getting a contribution from agriculture software company, Trimble. Students in the Illinois Tech's Department of Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering's Construction Engineering and Management program will be getting this new lab.

An article in Biz Journals stated that the lab will be a place where students can receive hands-on experience with a range of Trimble solutions.

Trimble is a company in Sunnyvale, California that creates hardware, software and technology services for the agriculture, construction and natural resources industries. They will provide its software and equipment to the students in the lab.

"We are thrilled to bring the Trimble Technology lab to our campus. The hands-on experiences enabled by this gift will make an immediate and lasting impact on our students' education and careers."

The Illinois Institute of Technology is Chicago's only tech-focused university and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the following:

 - Engineering

 - Computing

 - Architecture

 - Business

 - Design

 - Science

 - Human Sciences

 - Law

Earlier this year, the institute launched a new College of Computing to help prepare students for tech jobs. The new College houses the school's computer science, data science, artificial intelligence, applied mathematics, cybersecurity, and information technology and management programs.

Last year, Illinois Tech created a new degree program that allows students to earn a Bachelor of Science in Artificial Intelligence, which made it the first college in the U.S. to offer a degree solely focused on Artificial Intelligence.

According to PR Newswire, partnering with Trimble allows the Illinois Institute of Technology to integrate cutting-edge technology into its curricula, empowering graduates to rapidly transform how buildings and living environments are designed and constructed.

The lab will include a broad range of Trimble's industry-leading solutions such as:

- The Trimble XR10 HoloLens with hardhat

 - Trimble SiteVision augmented reality solution

 - 3D laser scanners

 - Trimble total stations

Their advanced software solutions will include:

 - RealWorks scanning software

 - Trimble Business Center

 - ProjectSight

 - Tekla Structures

 - Tekla Structural Designer

 - Tekla Tedds

 - Trimble Connect collaboration platform

 - Trimble's popular 3D modeling software, SketchUp Pro

Trimble is transforming the way the world works by delivering products and services that connect the physical and digital worlds. Their core technologies in positioning, modeling, connectivity and data analytics enable customers to improve productivity, quality, safety and sustainability.
