A new South Niagara Hospital is planned to be constructed in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Stantec is the design firm that has been selected to provide planning, design and conformance services. They have also completed the campus plan for Niagara Health. Stantec has a healthcare team that is doing the illustrative schematic design and the detailed output specifications for all of the design and construction requirements.
According to an article in Construction Review, the new South Niagara Hospital will include the following:
- 470 bed, full acute care hospital
- Span 1.3 million square feet
- 49.8 acre greenfield site
The hospital will feature centers of excellence specializing in the following:
- Stroke
- Complex care
- Geriatric and psychogeriatrics
- Wellness in aging
- 24/7 emergency department
- Services for critical care
- Surgical services
- Mental health and addiction services
- Kidney care and dialysis services
- Testing and research
Opening is planned for 2027 and the hospital will be one of the first Canadian healthcare facilities to achieve WELL certification.

The new facility will improve the patients and caregiver experience and strengthen access to local services.
Niagara Health reported that the South Niagara Hospital will be located at Biggar Road and Montrose Road, just off the Queen Elizabeth Way in Niagara Falls. The planning for this hospital has an eye for the future for decades to come and part of this planning includes designing an infrastructure to accommodate technology and delivery of healthcare services in ways we can't even envision right now.
