Construction is filling out for the base of 150 E. Ontario Street, a 28 story hotel in Streeterville, Chicago. This will be the latest addition to the RIU Hotels and Resorts chain. The Prime Group is the developer behind this project.
The building, designed by Lucien LaGrange Studio, stands out from other recent projects in the area due to its unique white masonry appearance. It will also include the following:
- 345-foot-tall structure
- Feature 388 guest rooms
- Cafe at the southeast corner of the building's street level
- Two internal loading berths
- Zero parking spaces provided
- Main lobby
- Breakfast dining room for guests on second floor connected to lobby via an ornamental stairs
Chicago Yimby states that the building will be built up to the property line against the neighboring buildings and the tower front facade will be broken into three sections with the middle section protruding slightly to distinguish the sections. The building entrance forms a significant focal element of the building and provides building identity and presence on the street.
The building has a clearly defined vertical appearance, comprised of a base, midsection and top. The base and upper stories of the high-rise building is in the same plane along the south facade fronting Ontario Street. Upper story setbacks are used to reduce the apparent mass and bulk of the building. These setbacks give a sense of sculpting to the top floors of the building.
The material palette consists of painted concrete and aluminum framed windows, providing a classical architectural style.
Parking is not an issue since one block away are bus services for Routes 2, 3, and 10. The CTA Red Line is even closer at only eight minutes southwest to Grand Station.
The developers paid $2.9 million into the Neighborhood Opportunity Fund and rezoned the site to a Planned Development. The project was originally planned for a 22-23 month construction timeline when it was supposed to break ground last summer.
W.E. O'Neil Construction Company is serving as the general contractor with construction set to complete by next year.
