Written by Judy Lamelza | Aug 14, 2019 6:34:14 PM

The IBI Group designed project from Parallax Investment Corporation has just submitted a revised plan for the 34 storey condominium tower at 98 Queen East. The new plan shows 372 units which is an increase of 16 from the first plan. Other numerous design changes have also been made per Urban Toronto.

The three storey base that rises next to the preserved heritage facades now features more punched window expression on the second and third floors.

The old plan also included six four-storey tall exposed columns lifting the tower over the podium as a visual separation above the heritage storefronts. This has been replaced by a recessed wall of windows that divides the modern tower from its base.

The previous white grid and bright orange accents on the tower cladding has been changed to a dark finish. This change helps the tower appear to be 'floating' above the podium. The tower massing has also been changed slightly, with a step-back from floors 8 to 18 having been removed and the average tower floor plate is now at 757 square metres.

The proposed tower is across Mutual Street from St. Thomas Developments' 88 Queen project and will act as a part of the ongoing revitalization of Downtown's east side. The development proposes to partially retain the heritage buildings at 98 through 104 Queen East.
