Granite Construction announced that it's subsidiary Kenny Construction Company, has been awarded a $46 million contract by the City of Chicago for the Navy Pier Flyover's Lakefront Trail Project Phase III in Chicago per the Street Insider.
This is the final phase of construction for the Navy Pier Flyover multi-use path which hopes to reduce congestion and improve safety for cicyclists and pedestrians.
Construction will begin on this final phase at the southern limits of the Phase II project which is also being constructed by Kenny and extends through the existing bridge houses and across the Chicago River alongside the Lake Shore Drive bascule bridge. The work will entail structural and mechanical rehabilitation of the existing bascule bridge, structural and architectural modifications to the bridge houses, installation of new dolphin structures and micropile deep foundations as well as bridge painting.

According to CBS Chicago, this project was announced in 2014 and at that time was slated to open by 2017. The new scheduled opening date is now set for the summer of 2020.

The trail passes through and connects Chicago's four major lakefront parks along with various beaches and recreational amenities. It also serves as a route for bicycle commuters.
