As Milton gears up for a busy construction season, residents can expect significant enhancements across the town's infrastructure landscape. The Town of Milton has earmarked $29.88 million for comprehensive infrastructure improvements in 2024.
The improvements include road reconstruction, bike lanes, sidewalk expansion, asphalt improvements, intersection modifications, urbanization (curbs and gutters), storm sewer rehabilitation and bridge maintenance. This investment underscores the town’s commitment to fostering a well-connected and efficiently managed community.

Milton.ca reports that the projects listed below are major construction initiatives for 2024, aimed to maintain and develop an efficient civil infrastructure network in Milton:
- Annual Asphalt Overlay Program
Located on 8.4km of roads within the urban area and rural estate subdivisions. On various streets throughout Milton. Includes removal and replacement of asphalt, as well as concrete work (curb, gutter, sidewalks), when required. Annual program which is anticipated to start in May and continue with completion fall 2024.
- Annual Expanded Asphalt Program
Locations include: First Line Nassagaweya from No. 25 Side Rd to No. 28 Side Rd/ No. 15 Side Road from First Line Nassagaweya to Second Line Nassagaweya/ Conservation Rd from Guelph Line to East Limit. For 2024, the scope of work is focused on asphalt rehabilitation and implementing a paved shoulder where space permits. Cross culverts may be replaced if identified during detailed design. Annual program - anticipated to start in June and continue until September 2024.
- Phase 1-2 Rattlesnake Point Improvements
Located on Appleby Line - hairpin turn south of Rattlesnake Point from 80 m north of the entrance to 7145 Appleby to 160m south of the entrance to 7145 Appleby. Phase 1 work related to traffic safety, including improved traffic signage and pavement markings. From Derry Road to Rattlesnake Point.
Phase 2 work is limited to the hairpin turn, just south of Rattlesnake Point, and will include a slight widening of the roadway through the turn to accommodate safe passage of passenger vehicles, as well as improvements to the road structure and drainage. The majority of construction was completed in 2023 up to base course asphalt, with final top works scheduled to be completed in the spring of 2024.
- Road Rehabilitation
Located at High Point Drive from Regional Road 25 to Parkhill Drive. Consists of storm sewer repairs, sidewalk construction, replacement of curb and gutter, subdrains and asphalt surface replacement. Majority of construction was completed in 2023 up to base course asphalt, with final top works scheduled for completion in early spring 2024.
- Road Widening and Reconstruction
Located on the Fifth Line from south of Main Street East to south of Derry Road. Scope of work includes constructing the southbound lanes including center medians/curb and gutter, boulevard works, ultimate intersection modifications to the intersections of Fifth Line and Yukon Court, Labrador Avenue and Derry Road, and CP Track signal arm installation. Construction is ongoing and is expected be complete by Fall 2024.
- Road Reconstruction
Located on Burnhamthorpe Road from Tremaine Road to Regional Road 25. Consists of culvert lining and replacements, minor curbing, asphalt reclamation with overlay, and associated shouldering. Joint project with the Town of Oakville. Construction anticipated to start in June and be complete by September 2024.
- Intersection Signalization
Located on 5 Side Road and Esquesing Line. Signalization of intersection including associated improvements. Joint project with Halton Hills. Design is underway with anticipated construction to start fall 2024.
- Boulevard and median road work
Located on Louis St. Laurent Avenue from Tremaine Road to Regional Road 25. Consists of boulevard and median works including localized landscaping improvements. Design is underway, with anticipated construction start in summer/fall 2024.
- Boulevard works with Landscaping
Located on Bronte Street South from Louis St. Laurent Avenue to Britannia Road. Includes Boulevard road work and localized landscaping including some multi-use path work on west side of Bronte Street. Design is underway, with anticipated construction start in summer 2024.
- Roadway rehabilitation
Located on Jasper Street. Includes Rehabilitation of entire roadway, focusing in pavement improvements. Design is substantially completed, with construction timing TBD, with earliest possible construction to occur in summer 2024.
- Annual Storm Sewer Rehabilitation Program
Located on various streets within Morton's urban area. Includes CCTV investigation and storm sewer rehabilitation, which may include the removal and replacement various storm sewer components such as maintenance holes, catch basins and storm sewer pipe. construction anticipated to start in early summer and continue through the fall of 2024.
- Bridge Rehabilitation
Located on Kelso Road bridge and includes the replacement of the superstructure (new concrete deck), replacement of asphalt wearing surface, new concrete parapet wall, repair to hazard markers and installation of guiderail. Construction to commence in summer of 2024, with completion anticipated in late fall 2024.
- Stormwater Management Facility Rehabilitation Project
Will complete miscellaneous deficiency rehabilitation, originally identified by AECOM in the 2019 Stormwater Management Facility Condition Assessment and confirmed through design projects in 2022 and 2024. Works are schedule at 12 SWM Facilities and include, but are not limited to, grading, trail restoration, clearing of excess vegetation, cleanup of excess debris, concrete works at inlet and outlet structures etc. No sediment removal is included in the scope of works for this project. Construction to start in early summer and continue through the fall of 2024.
- Mill Pond Rehabilitation
Rehabilitation of inlet and outlet structures (including addressing safety and risk at inlet crossing), creek bank erosion, bank stabilization and general pond clean up. No sediment removal required, as determined by pond survey work. Clean up of woody debris to be completed in the Spring, with major construction to start in early summer and continue through the fall of 2024.
While construction can be disruptive, the efforts being made in Milton are vital for ensuring that the town's infrastructure meets the needs of its growing population and remains sustainable for future generations. These projects are important for maintaining a safe and thriving community. As these projects unfold, the enhanced infrastructure will undoubtedly contribute to Milton having a more efficient infrastructure network in the years ahead.
