The historic Spadina Museum will undergo a $2.9 million rehabilitation to the building and grounds due to joint funding by the government of Canada, the government of Ontario and the City of Toronto. Once complete, all patrons of the Spadina Museum, including those with disabilities, will benefit from improved accessibility and better rental and programming space.
According to Ontario Newsroom, the Government of Canada is investing over $1.18 million through the Community, Culture and Recreation Infrastructure Stream of the Investing in Canada plan. The Government of Ontario is providing nearly $1 million, and the City of Toronto is contributing more than $790,000.
The project will consist of:
- Improving accessibility along the pathways leading from street to museum entrances
- Weatherproofing and restoration of existing windows and doors
- Improvements to the interior of the museum's garage
- Converting existing office, kitchen and car bay space into programming and rental space
- New flooring
- New lighting
- Install kitchenette
- Remodel second floor to accommodate increased programming
- Renovating the existing staircase
- Renovating existing washrooms and kitchen facilities

The News 24 reports that through the Invest in Canada plan, the federal government is investing more than $180 billion over 12 years in public transportation projects, green infrastructure, social infrastructure, industries and transportation routes, and rural and northern Canadian communities.
