EllisDon Infrastructure Transit (EDIT) was awarded a $175 million design/build/finance deal. They will be revamping the GO Transit's Rutherford Station in Vaughan, Ontario per RT and S.
EDIT is a consortium made up of EllisDon, Wood, Strasman Architects Inc., Mulvey & Banani International Inc., the Aquila Group, Condor Signals & Communications Inc. and NAK Design Strategies.
Besides working on the station itself, the contract entails the following:
- Building a new multi-level parking structure
- Redesigning the surface parking, kiss and ride, bus loop and pedestrian access areas
- Adding new rail platforms and a second heavy rail track
- Making provision for a future third express center track
- Rail/road grade separation on Rutherford Road
Construction is projected to begin in the spring of 2019 and completed by 2023 according to EllisDon.
The Rutherford GO Station is the oldest operating railway line in Ontario with passenger service that began in 1853. It is a train and bus station in the GO Transit network located in Vaughan.
According to Ellisdon, the EDIT team will bring together their extensive expertise in complex, multidisciplinary infrastructure design, construction and financing.
