Per EllisDon, EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare has reached a financial close on the new West Park Healthcare Centre. They have been awarded the contract to design, build, finance and maintain West Park's new hospital.
West Park will provide the following services:
- Specialized rehabilitation
- Complex continuing care
- Long-term care
- Community health services helping people manage difficult health challenges such as lung disease, diabetes, stroke, amputation and musculo-skeletol issues.
"As the first hospital in Ontario to include community benefits, West Park Healthcare Centre is a very exciting undertaking for EllisDon. As builders who are deeply rooted in the communities we build in, EllisDon is proud to be awarded the opportunity to collaborate on a project that will keep social and economic community benefits at the forefront before, during and after construction."

The 730,000 square foot hospital building will provide assorted inpatient, outpatient and outreach services. Eighty percent of the beds will be in single patient rooms. Sustainable features will include an expansion of green space and major landscaping for outdoor therapy areas and therapeutic gardens will also be incorporated. Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver certification will be emphasized. Work is scheduled to begin right away and substantial completion should be in early 2023.
According to DataBid, the project will include the demolition of three existing hospital buildings and construction of the new six story hospital to replace the aging facilities. EllisDon expects the project to create 500 jobs during peak construction.
Per Canadian Consulting Engineer, the fixed-price contract for $1.2 billion will reflect the payments to be made during construction, the substantial completion payment, and the facility maintenance payments over 30 years. The redevelopment will revamp West Park's 27 acre site into a unified campus to meet Ontario's future health care needs. There will also be a new campus entrance that will involve new public and private roads within the campus. It will also include an extension of utility services and the construction of more parking spaces.
The EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare team includes the following:
- Design: Cannon Design & Montgomery Sisam Architects
- Constructor: EllisDon
- Facilities Management Provider: EllisDon Facilities Services Inc.
- Financial Advisor: Ellisdon Capital Inc.
- Mechanical and Electrical contractor: Long time DataBid customer, Modern Niagara Toronto Inc. & Ozz Electric
According to Cannon Design, the vision for the project is to create an integrated campus of care fueled by education and research. Located in a park-like corner of Toronto's cityscape, the development will create an urban oasis delivering a healthcare experience like no other in the region.
