Construction started on Global Manufacturing Centre in Mississauga

Construction of the new Global Manufacturing Centre in Mississauga is on track. Bombardier's new state-of-the-art facility at Toronto Pearson International Airport will provide continued employment to the 2,000 employees currently working at Bombardier's Downsview facility.

An article in Toronto City News states that the 770,000 square foot facility at Pearson airport is expected to enhance operations to build its global business jets, including the industry flagship Global 7500 aircraft. They plan to manufacture the jets while representing the company's commitment to sustainability. This project is scheduled to be completed in 2023.

Some of the building's environmentally-responsible features include:

 - Reducing energy consumption by nearly 60 per cent

 - Focusing on natural and efficient lighting

 - Using newer heating methods to lower greenhouse gas emissions by more than half

"The last two years have had a crippling effect on the aerospace industry, with economic activity down about 20 per cent overall. Today really is about establishing a framework for a bright future for the aerospace industry here in the province of Ontario. The new production facility will help secure advanced manufacturing jobs for the long term and will be a proud new home for highly-skilled Bombardier workers for generations to come."

Unifor's National President | Jerry Dias

Bombardier also confirmed it will continue to create educational and job opportunities for future generations of aerospace talent in the GTA, particularly through its partnership with Centennial College.
